This morning, Yannick James of Grenada defeated compatriot Corey Wilson 6-1 6-
1 in the Boys 14 Singles Final, furthering his claims as one of the most promising
junior players on the Caribbean circuit.
Displaying a marked improvement since his last outing here last year, James took
the fight to his opponent, executing slick passing shots and being patient in the
rallies, which frustrated his opponent.
Following his victory, Yannick told www.sportcaraibe.net, “It is the fourth time
that I have beaten him since last year in St. Vincent.”
He was very pleased with his victory, and looks forward to continued dominance
of that division.
The other champion crowned this morning is Chassidy King of Antigua, as the
Girls 14 Singles champion, following her defeat of long time rival Daneya Charles
of St. Vincent and the Grenadines 6-1 6-2.
It is her first time doing the double at the Coca-Cola ITF Junior Tennis
tournament, but have performed the same feat in another tournament.
This victory is Chassidy’s second in less than twenty-four hours. Yesterday
evening as the dusk gathered over the Saint Lucia Racquet Club courts, she and
partner Keishorea Armstrong also of Antigua defeated the pair of Thira Calder
and Stacey Roheman 6-7 6-2 6-2 in the girls 14 Doubles Final on Stadium Court.
