The best have won their battles

the girls 12 doubles champions in action
SATURDAY AUGUST 09 2008, GROS-ISLET, Saint Lucia – The fitter and
better players won the last group of matches today, bringing to an exciting
finish, the 2008 Annual Coca-Cola ITF Junior Tennis Tournament.
Rodney Carey of the Bahamas defeated Brandon Burke of Jamaica to win the
Boys 18 Singles title, while Allison Falkin of the USA, got past compatriot Nelo
Phiri 6-3 7-6(4) in a last set tie-break.
The Girls 18 finals was one where the fittest survived, and although both players
were fading, after having played a number of long rallies, Phiri just could not find
the reserves to take the game away from her opponent in the second set, which
would have sent the game into a third set.

Dylan Hall of Barbados defeated Tjimon Louisy of Saint Lucia 6-4 6-4, in which he
committed fewer errors than his opponents, and put away some astounding
winners.
However, Julia d’Auvergne of Saint Lucia ensured that some of the champions’
silverware stayed at home.

She effectively swept Greta Ambrose of Grenada aside 6-1 6-1, to win the Girls
12 title, and following a rest period, teamed up with her partner Joelle Hall of
Barados to win the Girls 12 Doubles Final, defeating Roberta Haslam and Paige
Veira of St. Vincent and the Grenadines 6-4 6-4.
It was the first time since Aquila Gustave about three years ago, that a Saint
Lucia has won the Girls 12 title. In fact, Gustave was the first Saint Lucian to win
that title.

The morning action, with many of the players having to catch flights out of Saint
Lucia to tournaments in Antigua and Trinidad, only the best were able to win.
By so doing, their names are written in the annals of the Coca-Cola ITF Junior
Tennis Tournament; the twenty-fifth year of unbroken sponsorship by DuBoulays
Bottling Company, led by Jane and Dunstan DuBoulay.
