Going was tough at Zenith
CASTRIES, Saint Lucia - A number of athletes represented Saint Lucia on
Saturday May 3rd at the ASC ZENITH International Track and Field Meet in
Martinique.
It was not an easy sojourn into French territory for the athletes as they
encountered stiff opposition against a quality field.
Running in the 200-metre Under-17 Boys, Dwayne Charlery finished a
disappointing eighth in a time of 25.61 seconds.
Merica Moncherry ran 24.89 seconds in the 200-metre Women Open, which
earned her a second place; Shane Thomas also coming in second in the 100-
metre Under-19 Girls in a time of 12.43 seconds.

Nigel Leonce running in the 800-metre Men’s Open breasted the tape in a time of
1 minute 56.14 seconds, good enough to earn him the silver medal.
Princess George crossed the line in fourth place in the Under-13 Girls 100-metre
dash, in a time of 13.38 seconds, while her colleague Verlyn Taylor, taking silver
with a time of 13.22 seconds.
The 2007 male athlete of the year javelin thrower Albert Reynolds, having
recovered from an injury, competed in his first competitive meet for the year. He
threw 62.94 metres to take the gold, and junior female athlete of the year 2007
Sandisha Antoine in the Ladies triple jump came was fourth with a jump of 12.00
metres.

The quartet of Sandisha Antoine, Merica Moncherry, Verlyn Taylor, and Shanne
Thomas participated in the Ladies 4X100-metre relay, coming in sixth in a time of
51.31 seconds.
