Juveniles Meet ends on high

 

action in a girls 150-metre sprint

 


CASTRIES, Saint Lucia - Ten clubs and schools took part in the 2008 First

National Bank Saint Lucia 15th Juvenile Track and Field Championship, on Sunday

May 25, 2008 at the Mindoo Philip Park.

 

The participating clubs and schools were Abilene Wild Cats, Augier Primary

School, Baron’s Drive of Soufriere Track Club, Cheetahs Athletics, Choiseul

Secondary, Dennery Athletics, Morne Stars Athletics, Road Busters, Rockets Track

and Field Club, and the Survivors Track and Field Club.

 

Road Busters won the inaugural march past of teams, and the judging criteria

was Uniformity/Best dressed, Discipline in March pass, and colour. Placing second

and third respectively were Augier Combined School, and Rockets Athletics.

 

Randy Serville of the Morne Stars Athletics was judged the Victor Ludorum in the

8-9 Boys’ Division winning gold in three races. He won the 60-metre dash in

which he clocked 9.10 seconds, the 150-metres in a time of 22.68 seconds, and

the 300-metres in 51.26 seconds.

 

The Victrix Ludorum in the 8-9 Girls’ Division was judged to be Sharnique

Ambroise of Cheetahs Athletics, who won gold in the 60-metres in 9.15 seconds,

and bronze in the cricket ball throw with a distance of 17.10 metres.

 

In the 10-11 Boys’ Division, Markenny Nelson of Rockets Track and Field Club was

the Victor Ludorum, winning gold in the 150-metres in 20.83 seconds and in the

cricket ball throw with a distance of 44.78 metres, and silver in the 80-metres in

a time of 11.41 seconds.

 

Christabel Christophe of Baron’s Drive in Soufriere was the Victrix Ludorum in the

10-11 Girls’ Division with gold in the 80-metres in a time of 11.32 seconds, and  

150-metres in 21.30 seconds.

 

Coaches praised the sponsors and organisers, saying that it is a meet that is

critical to the development of track and field in Saint Lucia.

 

However, the coaches added that they would like to see more of the island’s

primary schools taking part, further broadening the base of participation, and

overall development.
