Wilton’s Yard is victorious in AIDS basketball

 

CASTRIES, Saint Lucia - The finals of the Central Castries HIV Aids Basketball

Tournament organised by Wilton’s Yard Association, was played on Tuesday

night at the Vigie Multi-purpose Sports Complex.

Two perennial rivals in Wilton’s Yard and Conway faced off on the courts, and the

game lived up to expectations.

 

Physical and skilful was the game, and the players did not back down, and it

took the all of the abilities of the officials to maintain control throughout.

 

Conway enjoyed the lead after the first two quarter 19 – 16, with scored tied at

the half, 33 – 33.

Wilton’s Yard went ahead in the third quarter at 56 – 48 and an interesting

fourth quarter awaited the scored who packed the stands at the facility, without

the presence of a single policeman for security purposes.

 

With times slowly ticking towards the inevitable final whistle, Conway missed

eight free throws and to added insult to injury, a three-pointer was way off

target with no pressure on the player.

Wilton’s Yard kept their nerve to win a nail-biter of a final 79 – 75, with Richie

Gabriel being judged MVP of the Finals, with his teammate Ron Demurville being

awarded the Most Discipline Award, and Germaine Thomas of Conway had the

Most Assists.

 

Fourteen teams began the tournament, which turned out to be extremely

competitive, and the organizers are extremely pleased with the way players

conducted themselves, encouraging the organizers to look towards the Central

Castries HIV Aids Basketball Tournament being an annual event.

The tournament was also geared towards making young persons aware of the

need to be prudent in their sexual life style, and to observe the rules of
