Bangladesh Romps to Third Place
This was an important game for two teams that had performed well, playing
excellent cricket throughout the duration of the CLICO International Under-15
Cricket Championships.
In fact, Bangladesh had made it to the semi-finals of both the Knockout and the
Group Stages, while Malaysia, for their part, were runners-up to Pakistan in the
Group Stage and semi-finalist against West Indies.
For them, this was a truly magnificent performance, considering the fact that they
were the late replacement for Zimbabwe in the tournament.
There was no doubt that both teams were geared up for this game, and when
Malaysia won the toss they made the decision to bat. However, they lost early
wickets against the pace of Shahariar Islam and Ahmed Arpon, who reduced
them to 25 for two after 15 overs.
Adding to their woes, when came the introduction of the right-arm off-spinner,
Khaza Khairuddin, and leg-spinner Nazeef Ahmed, the Malaysian batting
collapsed from 56 for 5 to 59 for 9, four wickets falling for only addition of only 3
runs.
They were eventually bowled out for 73, with Khairuddin and Ahmed taking 4 for
15, and 4 for 9, respectively
In their response, Bangladesh powered their way to 75 for 1 off 11.1 overs,
scoring at a rate of more than six runs per over. Didar Hossain cracked a quick 41
not out and he got good support from Anisur Rahman who scored 22 n.o., as
Bangladesh had romped to victory by the massive margin of 9 wickets and the
Third Place Runners-up spot, with the Man-of-the-Match award going to Khaza
Khairuddin.
