Quality cricket from Under 13s

 


BASSTERRE, St. Kitts - After being dethroned last year by Trinidad and Tobago,

Barbados have started their journey in the eight-team St Kitts/Nevis 13-and-

Under Cricket Championship, with a convincing win over Montserrat in St Pauls by

ten wickets.

Team Barbados

Montserrat batting first were skittled out for 99 in 23 overs, with 35 extras

making a sizeable contribution. Jahleel Syers top scored for Montserrat with

22, Shawn Tuitt 17, and Shaka Sobers 14, were the main contributors to the

Montserrat score.

 

For Barbados, Shamario Taylor with four for 24 and Jamine Bullen two for 14,

destroyed the Montserrat batting.

Team Montserrat

In reply, Barbados reached their target without loss, as Shane Proverb 46, and

Lee-Germon Gaskin 42, posted exactly 100 without loss in 12 overs, winning by

ten wickets.

 

Jahleel Syers (Montserrat) and Shane Proverbs (Barbados) each collected Man-

of-the-Match awards for their individual teams.

 

The defending champions Trinidad and Tobago played like true Champions to

ease past one of the top teams Dominica with a 22-run victory at the Conaree

Sporting Complex.

Team St. Kitts

Winning the toss, Trinidad and Tobago scored 152 for five off their allotted 25

overs, with Brian Christmas 46, Vikash Mohan 19, and Shaquille Duncan 17;

being the main scorers.

 

Bowling for Dominica, Kimron George with two for 18, and Kyle Cabey two for 25

were the main bowlers.

Dominica in reply reached 130 all out in 25 overs; Briel Thomas top scoring with

35 not out, and 23 from the bat of Aljai Liverpool.

Team Nevis

Bowling for Trinidad and Tobago, Sachindra Roopnarine finished with four for 09,

Captain Vikash Mohan four for 17, as they destroyed the Dominican batting.

 

Man-of-the-Match awards went to Brian Christmas (T&T) and Briel Thomas

(Dominica).

 

In their clash against Bermuda, host team St Kitts won the toss and batted first,

scoring 143 for eight off 25 overs. In the process, Le Tanio Ferdinand scored the

first half-century of the tournament with 57.

Team Anguilla

Opening Batsman Alexi Bedford (29) and Captain Tristan Hanley (21) were the

main scorers for St Kitts.

 

The bowling for Bermuda, Cejay Outerbridge with three for 23, and in reply,

Bermuda pinched out a nerve-racking win with three balls to spare to romp home

by two wickets.

 

Bermuda reached 144 for eight in 24.3 overs; with William White top scoring with

32, Captain Kamau Leverock (23), and Keshun Smith (19.

 

Bowling for St Kitts, Le Tanio Ferdinand took three for 23, and Omar Francis 3 for

25, and Man-of-the-Match awards went to William White (Bermuda) and Le Tanio

Ferdinand (St Kitts).

Team Bermuda

In another opening round clash, Anguilla won the toss and inserted Nevis, who

reached 162 for eight in 25 overs with a whopping 89 extras bowled.

 

Top scorer for Nevis was Ras Powell with 25, with good contributions coming

from Captain Damion Parris (22), and Clyde Smithe (16).

 

Bowling for Anguilla, Dimitri Adams bagged three for 22 off his five overs, as

Anguilla reached 75 for five; Asharn Hodge being the main contributor with 14.

 

Bowling for Nevis, Kesron Archibald was the pick of the bowlers with three for 11,

and Man-of-the-Match awards went to Kesron Archibald (Nevis) and Dimitri

Adams (Anguilla).

 

It was quality cricket from theh Under-13s, who showed their skill in all aspects
