windies coach John Dyson reviews first digicel test

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Head coach of the West Indies John Dyson has indicated

that despite defeat in the first Digicel Test, the team had many "positives" from

the match against Australia at Sabina Park.

He also indicated that they would be fighting hard in the 2nd Digicel Test at the

Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, which starts on Friday.

Speaking on Monday, Dyson noted: "You don't like loosing, but we will take away

quite a few positives. This Test match made everyone realise they (Australia) are

only human. They are not super human and they can falter. If we continue doing

the good things that we can do they might falter just enough to give us the

opening we need.

"I don't think there was a huge difference between the two teams in this Test

match. You can't walk away and say 'it's not possible for the West Indies to win'.

We showed that we can compete. We will walk away from here believing that we

can do the job in the 2nd Test match."

The head coach also indicated that the work started last year on the trip to

South Africa and many of the things being put in place since then were beginning

to bear fruit.

"We will take away a lot of positive things and that is what we have tried to do

from South Africa last year. You can't expect a team to turn around overnight and

consistently win every game. We recognise that and this is against the strongest

unit in the world. I think we have out on a pretty good show and if we can

improve on a few areas, we can put on another pretty good show in Antigua.

"Hopefully Australia can feel a bit more pressure. It must have been a bit of a

wakeup call that they didn't just walk in here, dominate, and walk away with the

game in three days. That didn't happen and we had five really good days."

Meanwhile the West Indies selectors have named the following players for the

2nd Digicel Test against Australia at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua

from May 30th to June 3rd.

The full squad is Sulieman Benn, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel

Edwards, Chris Gayle, Xavier Marshall, Runako Morton, Brenton Parchment,

Daren Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Darren Sammy, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Devon Smith,

and Jerome Taylor.
