Darters throw in preparation

The females were vying for a spot to Trinidad
CASTRIES, Saint Lucia – The action has been intense over the past weeks, as
Saint Lucia’s top male and female darts players, went through a series of
grueling training sessions towards selection on the national squads.
These two squads are scheduled to travel to Trinidad and Tobago in August this
year, to participate in two regional tournaments, the Americas Cup being one of
them.
According to one official of the Selection Panel who requested anonymity, “it
would have been good to put these players in a high-pressure tournament
before we travel to Trinidad.”

He was all poise during the trials
This he said is important for training is one thing, but nothing betters a high-
pressure tournament prior to the regional competition.
“We need to have more regional competitions here to keep our players sharp
and focused, and to improve upon their skills,” he added.
However, for this to become a reality there ought to be greater private sector
funding, and “the will by Government to take sports to another level.”
Notwithstanding he expects the players to do their best, “for Saint Lucia is
always one of the better teams coming out of the sub-region, but we need to
begin making a mark at the Americas Cup.
