Blackheart fixtures released…but
No clear favourite this year

CASTRIES, Saint Lucia – The organizers for this year’s Blackheart/Kashif and
Shanghai Knockout Football Tournament has released the fixtures, which kicks
off this coming Sunday May 18 2008, at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
The tournament commences with the official opening ceremony from 3:00 p.m.,
inclusive of the colourful march-pass of teams, followed by the various speeches
by officials from Blackheart Productions, Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, and
the many sponsors.
When attention is turned to the action, Canaries and Roseau will have the
distinction of kicking of this year’s action, with the opening game.
Game number two features Gros-Islet and the Castries All-Stars in a clash, which
surely according to the pundits, “raise the temperature”.
These two games decide which of the two teams goes through to the second
round, along with the winners of the other games, which will be played at the
George Odlum National Stadium in Vieux-Fort.
South-east Castries and Micoud will clash from 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 20 in
the first game of a double-header, and in the second match, it will be Mon Repos
taking on Laborie.
Marchand and Vieux-Fort north will clash from 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 21,
and from 8:00 p.m., it will be Vieux-Fort south and Anse-la-Raye doing battle.
Mabouya Valley and La Clery will be going at each other on Friday May 23 from
6:00 p.m., and from 8:00 p.m., Dennery and South Castries will bring the curtains
down on the first round action at the George Odlum Stadium.
Sunday May 25, and Wednesday May 28, will be quarterfinal action at the
Beausejour Cricket Ground, with the semi-finalists clashing on Friday May 30, at
the same venue form 6:00 p.m.
The Grand Finals will take place on Sunday June 1, 2008, before which will be
played the third place play-off between the losing semi-finalists.
Meanwhile football analyst Tennyson Glasgow has said that there is no clear
favourite has been identified in this year’s tournament.
Last year he pointed, out that Dennery would have emerged champions, on that
he was correct but as he said in a radio interview on the Morning Rumble on
Radio Caribbean International this morning, “I cannot pick a front runner.”
As reasons, he gave the preparation of teams this year, along with an even
stronger desire to win this year’s EC$15,000.00 first place price, the Archie
Maurez Trophy, replicas for each team members, and bragging rights as district
football champions of Saint Lucia.
