King redesigns La Clery sports

Sporting facilities in La Clery and surrounding environs are scheduled to receive
a major facelift, within the coming months.
Parliamentary Representative and Prime Minister for Saint Lucia Stephenson King
revealed this, as he addressed the brief closing ceremony of the 2008 District
Representative Football Competition.
He pointed out that the Government of Saint Lucia was currently in the final
stages of redesigning La Clery’s sporting facilities, and existing playing field. The
plan calls for seating accommodation, lighting, resurfacing of the outdoor court/s,
and in the not too distant future, construction of an indoor facility for sports and
other constituency activities.
Prime Minister King further pointed out that with the completion of one football
tournament and the possibility of a second one starting very soon, “I think La
Clery is back on its way to having competitive football back in the community.”
Prime Minister spoke about La Clery in what he his opinion, “a holistic way.”
He strongly believes that one cannot build or develop infrastructure without
developing the human being, part of human development has to do with sports,
physical activity and social activity.

The announcement was made during a recent prize giving ceremony following a
Big Four Football Competition.
Having recognized that his Castries North constituency extends beyond La Clery,
Prime Minister King also announced plans for a football field for Agard and
outdoor courts in two other communities.
“All of this again is intended to ensure that our young people get engaged in
sporting and social activities and to drive them away from the anti social
behavior and anti social activities they must not get involved in,” said King.
During the prize giving, Radicals received the Stephenson King trophy for winning
the 2008 District Representative Football Tournament, while Lancers, the losing
finalist also won the Big Four Competition.
Additionally, the three teams which took in a Ball-a-rama received cheques and
uniform kits.
It was also announced by the Prime Minister, that tpwards the end of this year,
a musical festival consisting of musicians from the surrounding area/s, will take
place in La Clery, which could very well be the launching pad for a a Castries
North Sports Festival sometime in 2009.
In addition to the Prime Minister and District Representative Stephenson King;
Taiwanese Ambassador Tom Chou; and Saint Lucia’s Minister for Trade Industry
and Investment Rufus Bousquet, were present at the ceremony.
