SUNDAY APRIL 20, 2008; Micoud Saint Lucia – Having fought for ninety
minutes on a rough and uneven surface, the Myette Gardens All Stars were
forced to rely on a calm approach when the dreaded penalty kicks shootout took
place in today’s Micoud District Representative Under-19 Football Final against
Village Boys All Stars.
Both teams played the game with pace, but it was the Village Boys who found
themselves under early pressure. Their defense was yet to sort themselves out,
and the aggressive Myette Gardens forwards ran them to the ground.
However, it was a combination of poor shot placement, lucky defending, and
good goalkeeping, which kept them in the hunt.
Village Boys soon settled and began to mount raids of their own, but repeatedly
encountered a green wall of defense.
They went into the interval with the scores goalless, and upon the resumption,
Village Boys went into the attack.
Myette Gardens returned the favour with attacks of their own. It was in the 71st
minute when the deadlock threatened with a sizzling shot from outside the area.
The Village Boys goalkeeper was equal to the task and pulled off a stunning
save, and so the score remained until the official blew the whistle at the end of
the 90 minutes.
Village Boys were only able to convert their third penalty kick, by which time
Myette Gardens had already slotted home three.
Myette Gardens striker for their fourth penalty kick, sensing victory was near,
made no mistake in slamming the fourth one home to record a 4-1 penalty
shootout victory, and capturing the 2008 Micoud District Representative Under-
19 Football Championship.
Shaun Justin of Village Boys was judged MVP of the final, while earlier, Ti Rocher
squeezed past Line Boys one-nil to take the third place.
