, Saint Lucia; Tuesday October 2nd 2007 - The semi final line up is

now complete in the inaugural Guinness Veterans Football Tournament, with

VSADC, Niabinghi, Spartans, and Soufriere booking places in the semi- finals

after victories in quarter-final action last evening.


In the first encounter on Monday evening Niabinghi won over Vieux-Fort in a

penalty shoot out four goals to two after regulation time and extra time ended

two all.


Nigel “scrape” James opened the scoring for Niabinghi in the 26th minute from

the penalty spot, but Douglas “ti-goat” Marcellin pulled one back for Vieux-Fort in

the 58th minute.


Angus Sexius with his second goal of the Tournament gave Niabinghi a two

goals to one lead but Ricky Gilkes converted in the 74th minute for Vieux-Fort to

take the game into extra-time where Niabinghi triumphed Four Goals to two.

In the evening’s second encounter title favourites VSADC got past Gros-Islet two

goals to nil. Both of VSADC’S goals were scored by Irvine “barboy” Hippolyte in

the 17th and 80th minute.


The two other teams into the quarter-finals is Soufriere and Spartans, after

having enjoyed contrasting results.


First, Soufriere hammered Shamrock 7-nil, with a hat-trick coming from Daniel

Herman who converted in the 19th, 40th minute and 50th minutes, respectively.

Adding to the rout was Agustus “fada” Lucien in the 33rd minute and 66th

minute, Terry Moses in the 45th, and Valence Lubrun in the 80th.


In the second   match of the evening between Toughest and Spartans, it took a

wonderful solo effort by Godfrey Alfred who dribbled past five Toughest

defenders to drive home the one goal that gave Spartans the one goal to nil

victory.

The Tournament is now on a three day break and will resume Friday evening

with the semi-final action.

From 6.00 p.m., Spartans will come up against Soufriere while from 8.00 p.m.,

long time old rivals VSADC and Niabinghi renew their rivalry. The finals and third

place play-off will take place on Sunday.


So far 40 goals have been scored from 11 matches played at an average of 3.63

goals per game. Godfrey Alfred of Spartans is the tournaments leading goal

scorer with six goals in two matches.


Three players are tied on three goals each, Agustus Lucien and Daniel Herman of

Soufriere and Irvine “barboy” Hippolyte of VSADC.


The inauguaral Guinness Veterans football tournament is being organized by the

Windward and Leeward Brewery and Blackheart Productions.
