Sir Viv Richards is confident in his game
GROS-ISLET, Saint Lucia – Every year during the regional hosting of touring
teams, Saint Luca hosts the Annual Sir Viv Richards Golf Tournament, at the Cap
Estate Golf Club in Saint Lucia.
This tournament has seen many of the world top cricket legends participate,
along with radio and print personalities, corporate executives, and all those who
fancy rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s sports legends.
This year’s tournament was no exception, and the man himself, Sir Viv Richards
was pleased with the way his game is improving, and the tournament being able
to be such a fixture on the regional calendar.
“I am happy with my game, and me and my partner are doing quite well,” Sir Viv
stated in an interview. “It is very relaxing yet mentally demanding as you have to
calculate so many variables in this simple looking game called golf.”
He pointed out that another demand is that if you fail in a cricket game, chances
are one of the other players will rise to the occasion and score the needed runs,
or take the wickets.
“In golf it is you and you alone, and if you mishit, mis-calculate distance, wind
speed, layout of the terrain, you may find yourself struggling all the way,” the
West Indies cricket legend said.
He further pointed out that he admires Tiger Woods for his single-minded
approach, and the meticulous manner he goes about preparing, and attending to
his game in competition.
“In Tiger Woods are many positive traits one can take. There are many positive
lessons the young cricketers can take from Tiger Woods and I admire him for the
way he prepares, and takes on each challenge,” Sir Viv further stated.
Amala Luncheon of Carib Beer, one of the sponsors, said that the tournament is
growing, and very soon, the Sir Viv Richard Golf Tournament may just become the
tournament in the region many will want to go to.
The prizes are getting better and so are the competition, and Amala sees only
improvements not just in the game of the various players, “but the way people
view golf, which would result in greater numbers coming out to play and watch.”
