In one of the 2008 OECS Under-23 Netball Championships feature clashes,
hosts Saint Lucia and St. Kitts met in a ding-dong affair that had spectators
hanging on to the edge of their seats, as the pendulum swung in favour of one
team, then the other.

though it was tough, saint lucia prevailed
Although the hosts led in all quarters 12 – 9, 21 – 19, 34 – 25, and final score
of 41 – 39, it was the fourth quarter that almost resulted in many spectators
having heart seizures, and the island’s Prime Minister Stephenson King suffering
a major disappointment.
Going into the fourth and final quarter, Saint Lucia led by ten points, but a series
of errors resulted in the Kittians staging an assault, which saw seven
unanswered goals being scored.
It was nerve-racking as the Saint Lucians capitalized on three errors by their
opponents to maintain a slim but precarious lead, and the sighs of relief was
audible throughout the facility when the final whistle went.
Leading the Saint Lucia effort although not at the top of her game was captain
Safiya Paul scoring 23 of her 29 attempts, and Merlessa Alfred scoring 18 out of
her 26 attempts.
Ronelle Morton with 32 out of 26 attempts, Mechelle Liburd 3 out of 3, and
Tenelle Lapsey 4 out of 6 attempts, led the disappointed Kittians fight to the
end. (Robertson S. Henry)
