Top nations successful on opening night
SUNDAY JULY 06, 2008, GROS-ISET, Saint Lucia – Four-time champions and
hosts Saint Lucia had a successful start to their 2008 OECS Under-23 Netball
Tournament campaign, when they defeated Nevis 52 – 27, in game three on the
opening night.

The ladies from ‘Helen of the West’ were led by captain Safiya Paul who scored
22 out of 24 attempts, Merleesa Alfred scoring 21 out of 30 attempts, and
Roxanne Snyder with 9 out of 12 attempts.
Nevis were totally outplayed in the first half, but recovered when the Helenites
changed personnel, due to the illness of one of their players.
Shantel Williams with 18 of 23, Tyeka Powell 1 of 5, Shanique Barlette 4 of 9, and
Shenneth Skeete with 4 out of 4, were the successful scorers for the Nevisians.
5he quarter scores were 12 – 4, 21 – 13, 42 – 21, and 52 – 27 in favour of the
hosts, but captain Safiya Paul sees the game as one when they were able to
test their strategies and players in a competitive environment.

Grenada goal attack scores another
One-time Grenada defeated Dominica in the tournament’s opening game 49 –
36, the quarter scores being 10 – 13, 23 – 21, 35 – 30, and finally 49 – 36.
Lettysha Cato with 45 out of 52 attempts, and Ixtty Joseph with five of 18 led
the spice girls’ effort.
For the Land of Many Rivers, Stacey Fontaine scored 28 of 34 attempts, Daniella
Vasquez 5 of 7, with Shakima Augustine 3 out of 3.
Grenada captain said that Dominica always give them a tough fight over the
years, but for reasons unknown, Dominica did not play as hard.

Antigua's goalshoot Jamila Fitz collects a pass
Twelve-times champion and defending champions St. Vincent and the Grenadines
demolished Antigua 70 – 30 in an almost one-sided affair.
The quarter scores were 16 – 5, 35 – 14, 55 – 21, and finally 70 – 30 in favour of
the Vincie ladies, who were led by Shellisa Davis with a tournament high to date
of 49 0f 53, and Leeana Lewis 21 of 25.
For the Antiguans, Jamila Fitz scored 21 of 35, and Kizzy Thomas 9 out of 14
attempts.

St. Kitts centre makes a timely intercept
In the night’s finals game, St. Kitts got pass Anguilla 15 – 7, 24 – 14, 41 – 22,
and finally 58 – 25, to keep alive their president’s dream of winning the sub-
