Two teams pull out and Commercial off to slow start

action in the opening game of the netball-o-rama between Courts and Consolidated Foods
THURSDAY MAY 29, 2008, Castries, Saint Lucia - The usually exciting
Commercial-Plus Netball Tournament has gotten off to a damp and less than
exciting start.
Last Wednesday the official opening ceremony took place, with only four teams
participating in the opening Rama, won by reigning champions M&C Group of
Companies.
Seven commercial entities were registered to play in the 2008 tournament.
However since the opening on Wednesday May 21, two teams have pulled out,
namely Police and Banks, with no reasons being proffered to the Saint Lucia
National Netball Association for their withdrawal.

the players are greeted by SLNNA, Ministry of Sports, and Chamber officials
“This is very disappointing to us especially with Police, who have recently come
back from playing a regional tournament in which they placed second”, noted
Liota Charlemagne, President of the SLNNA. “One would have though that
participation in that tournament would have prepared them for competing at this
level.”
That being aside, the Tournament has been revised with five teams competing;
Consolidated Foods Ltd, Teachers Union, Best of Eleven, Courts, and the M & C
Group.
Games are being played daily from Monday to Thursday at the Vigie Multi-
purpose Sports Complex. Despite the withdrawal of the two teams, it is
anticipated that the Tournament will be just as exciting with the level of play on
the court being very competitive.
In games played to date, Courts defeated Consolidated Foods 34 – 28, and
M&C defeated Best of Eleven 38 26.
For Consolidated Foods, Stylla Murray netted 20 of 40 attempts, Evyan Emanuel
5 of 18 attempts, and Cassandra Raphael 3 of 9 attempts.
Gabriella Prospere 4 of 9 attempts for Courts, Beverly Randolph 4 of 9 attempts,
Hyacinth Peterson 7 of 10 attempts, and Tressa Ann Charles 18 of 24 attempts.
In the M&C versus Best of Eleven, which M&C won 46 – 38, goalshoot for M&C
Ursula St Remy scored 11 of 15 attempts, and goalattack Melissa Alfred netted
35 of 43.
Best of Eleven, goalshoot Lindel Forde netted 25 of 40 attempts, and goalattack
Tabitha Maty scored 13 of 18 attempts. (Robertson S. Henry)
