Saint Lucia reduces OECS squash participation

CASTRIES, Saint Lucia - On Thursday, five Saint Lucian males will leave Saint
Lucia to participate in the annual OECS Squash championships. This year Saint
Lucia will only participate with a Men’s team events.
Representing St Lucia are St Lucia's champ and defending
OECS champ Charlie Sonson, Tournament Director of the local Association –
David Piper, Dominique Rivers, Chris Gardinier and Randolph Khan.
They will play in the OECS individuals starting on Thursday and finishing Friday
evening and they will continue straight into the team tournament on Saturday
playing Men’s teams from St Vincent and the British Virgin Islands, and will return
home on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, this year St Lucia hosts the 15th anniversary of the annual St Lucia
Squash Open.
The tournament, which commences on June 3oth already has a number of
sponsors confirmed six weeks away from the tournament.
Subaru who last year made a commitment to be title sponsor for three years is
on board for their second year while Bank of Nova Scotia have this year moved
up to gold sponsor along with Le Sport Body Holiday.
Silver sponsors have been confirmed as Bay Gardens Inn, with CocoResorts and
the Document Centre, Consolidated Foods Ltd and Endless Summer have
committed their bronze sponsorship once again to the tournament.
As in keeping with the past, the Association promotes sports tourism hosting
both new and repeat top international and regional squash players.
The Saint Lucia Open Squash tournament is part of a Caribbean circuit
commencing in Barbados on June 23rd, followed by the St Lucia Open and
finishing with the Jamaica Open commencing on July 7th.
