Bonne Terre retains primary school swim title

2008 primary schools swimming champions The Bonne Terre Preparatory School
GROS-ISLET, Saint Lucia – The Bonne Terre Preparatory School successfully
defended its National Primary Schools Swimming title, at the 2008 Inter-Primary
National School Swimming Championships, held on Friday May 16, 2008 at the
Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre.
Amassing a combined total of 393 points, Bonne Terre Preparatory School
successfully defended their title, which was won last year.
They were able to out-swim their counterparts from the other schools with
International School taking second place with 196 points, and the Tapion
Primary School third with 170 points.
The other participating schools were The Montessori Centre with 162 points,
Plain View Combined with 122 points, River Doree Anglican School with 48 points,
Augier Combined School with 38 points, Patience Combined School with 36
points, Dame Perlette
Louisy Primary with 11 points, Laborie Boys School with 6 points, Soufriere
Primary School and Vieux Fort Primary School
with 5 points, each, Ti Rocher Combined School with 4 points, and the Dugard
Primary School, Micoud Primary School, and Reunion Primary School, did not score
a point.
However, although the a number of schools did not pose a threat to the more
established ones, the coaches were very pleased with the performance of the
emerging schools, especially those in the southern half of the island.
They see the Meet as a development one in which the swimmers, teachers, and
coaches are able to assess progress, and develop Saint Lucia human resource in
that regard.
Over 140 athletes registered for the meet with one independent swimmer form
Soufriere, representing 16 schools.
When the waters were once again clam, five new age group records were set in
the day. First in the Female 9-10 25-metre Free, Patrice Lewis set a new age
group of record 18.11 seconds, followed by another record in the Female 9-10
25-metre Breast of 24.98 seconds.
Thalia Bergasse in the Female 11-12 25-metre Fly, established a new age group
record of 18.22 seconds, with Jay Lansiquot in the Male 9-10 25-metre Free of
17.27 seconds, and in the Male 11-12 25-metre Fly, Jason Beaubrun stabling a
new record of 18.74 seconds to cap off an action-packed meet.
