ST MARY COLLEGE CAPTURES FIRST NATIONAL BANK ST Lucia SECONDARY SCHOOL SWIM MEET
In what could only be described as a hugely successful 7th Annual Secondary
School Swim Meet on Friday 23rd May 2008, sponsored by the First National
Bank St Lucia, 128 of the islands top swimmers, representing 12 Secondary
Schools, participated in an exciting and competitive event. Organized by the St
Lucia Amateur Swimming Association (SLASA) in collaboration with the
Ministry of Education, Department of Sport in the Ministry of Youth and Sport
and The Rodney Heights Aquatic Center
The Top Girls Team trophy was won by St. Joseph's Convent with 198 points
followed by Leon Hess with 159 points and International School with 97 points;
the Top Boys Team Trophy was won by St. Mary's College with a total score of
292 points followed by International School and Leon Hess with 182 and 73
points respectively. The Overall Trophy was also captured by St. Mary's College,
with the International School 2nd and Leon Hess 3rd.
The trophies for the top three schools were presented by 1st National Bank
Manager, Mr. Robert Fevriere and the three top-scoring swimmers in each age
group were each presented with medals by St Lucia Amateur Swimming
Association President Marcus Day.
After the opening ceremony comprising a march past of the teams and welcome
remarks from Mr. Fevrier and Dr Marcus Day the meet commenced and turned
out be highly competitive with the schools having their vocal supporters and a
fully interested and absorbed First National Bank attendees thoroughly enjoying
the swimmers efforts.
One Age Group Record was established during the meet, by Eamon Ashworth of
the International Secondary School, who won the 13-14 Boys 100m Individual
Medley in a time of 1:10.35.
Meet organizers benefited from the assistance from students of the Bright
Horizons Preparatory School who helped officiate.
