KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent & the Grenadines; Sunday October 21st 2007 -
Fifteen-year-old Dominic Lovell of Saint Lucia is looking forward to pitting his
skills against the rest of the field in the inaugural Digicel International Tennis
Federation Junior Tennis Tournament, being played here in St. Vincent and the
Grenadines National Tennis Centre.
Speaking to the press on the eve of the first international junior tennis
tournament to be held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Lovell was confident of
giving a creditable performance in his matches.
He is entered into the main draw, and when asked about his game at present,
replied “my game is much better than it was at the Coca-Cola Tennis
Tournament in Saint Lucia.”
This he pointed out is due to following the conclusion of the 2007 Coca-Cola
International Tennis Federation Junior Tennis Tournament; he began training at
least two hours every day with Alberton Richelieu jr., before he Alberton left
Saint Lucia for studies.
These daily sessions were followed by another daily session, this time for 1½
hours with Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States number one Vernon Lewis.
In the recently held Barbados tournament, Lovell reached the second round,
though he did not finish in the top eight, was pleased with the improvements in
his game.
Looking ahead to Monday’s’ start of the Boys’ 18 Main Draw, Dominic Lovell
pointed out that his game may be just about the same or even better to “what I
saw in the qualifiers.”
On the expected tough matches, he said “I will be basically just playing my game
and keeping my head.”
Dominic Lovell is the only Saint Lucia entered into the Boys’ 18 Main Draw, and
said “It is not the first time I am the only Saint Lucian in the Main Draw.”
This has been a situation he was forced to begin dealing with since playing in
the 14s division, and has been able to learn how to deal with it.
“My main aim is to take Saint Lucia tennis much further as I can,” Dominic added.
He is also looking forward to playing in the Doubles segment of the Tournament,
and has chosen as his Doubles partner Alexander Golding from England.
